The theoretical stance of this training is mostly behavioural-systemic with object relations as appropriate, in line with the curriculum of the European Federation for Sexology (EFS). In addition to the sexual issues in individuals we shall integrate these with how they impact on couples.
The training will be demanding, and course participants are requested to arrive rested and ideally allow one day after the workshop to think, feel, and integrate.
There will be video materials alongside traditional teaching methods and some of these materials may be sexually explicit. On completion participants receive a Certificate specifying the course content and extensive study material. There will be homework between teaching days as well as guide reading. We shall work with heteronormative as well as inclusive models of sexuality and relationships and address social issues such as domestic violence, divorce, and marriage preparation.
Curriculum:
· Organic and non-organic psychosexual problems (“what is physical, what is emotional and are they ever separate?”). Covering the full range of sexual problems from vaginismus to erectile problems, anorgasmia, loss of desire and more.
· Integrating a biosocial model of Psychosexual and Relationship Therapy and Gestalt Psychotherapy. Drawing together medicine, the world of the couple, psychotherapy, and environmental issues (such as cultural differences, sexual orientation, gender)
· What is a couple”? – A critical appraisal of models of intimate dual systems.
